Filming at school

Today, me and my group went to the care centre at school to film a scene where I'm in a coma, lying on the hospital bed. The setting of the room is really clean and tidy, with the white bed and red blanket, it looks very much like a hospital room. This scene is part of the flashback in our film opening and it will make our story more complete because it links everything up and makes audiences wonder what had happened to the girl and what had the guy done to her, so they will be interested and will want to keep watching.

Creating contrasts

In our film, instead of using swans to create contrast between love and lost, we also made use of the energy of children. As you can see from the picture above, George was standing on the left, walking towards the riverside. He was wearing all black, and when he walked pass the camera, people can see his facial expression and he looked sad and depressed. However, on the right, we can see children playing happily, having fun and laughing. It shows a very strong contrast here, and it reminds him of something that he can never get back in his life, love and joy.

Research on swan

Further evidence to why we chose to film swan.
In a recent film BLCK SWAN, white swan symbolises beauty, perfection, and purity. However, black swan symbolises darkness, evil, destruction and mysterious. Just like how we made use of white swan in our film, showing that the relationship between George and Karen was beautiful and almost perfect.

Swans

A scene from FADED

We deliberately filmed swans in Faded. In real life, swans sometimes symbolise love and peace. However, in his life, he lost both of them, creating a contrast. We purposely waited for a group of swans to swim by. We lured them in using bread

OUR IDENT

Here is the ident for our production group- THT Productions. The idea of THT is based on the last names of the members of our group, Thornton, Harrop and Tsang.
The ident is quite simple, and it suites most of the genres of films, but mostly thriller. We made use of smoke, glittery, and a rough texture so that the animation becomes more lively and mysterious, rather than a boring plain background with plain text. The titler at first appears to be shattered pieces which then combine to form the name of our production company 'THT productions'.

Creating our ident

Before we start to create the ident of our movie Faded, me and my group went on to video copilot and looked at the Aftereffects tutorials.

This is the effect we want to create for our ident- smoky and textural.
The first step was to create the texture of the text 'FADED'.
We picked a rusty iron background, and applied it on the text, so this is how it looks like:

We will add in the animation and the smoky effect next lesson

Camera angle

We used a wide range of camera shots in our film. For example, we made used of panning to show the setting and views of the roof  where George is.
panning
We also used close up shit, which allows us to show the expression and emotions of the main character and shows how his emotions build up to the last act- jumping off the roof.
Close up
We aimed to use a wide range of shots in order to show the background information as much as we can and show continuitiy. Other camera shots we made use of are point of view shots midshotd, establidhing shot , long shots and tracking shots.
